Why I love Ballygiblin’s

This is a sad day for Carleton Place.  With a heavy heart Derek Levesque announced that he will be shutting the doors to Ballygiblin’s effective Sunday, August 30.

When my husband Ken and I first moved to Carleton Place eight years ago Ballygiblin’s was the first restaurant we went to that felt like home.  We instantly fell in love with the delicious food and more importantly the people that worked there.  The team at Bally’s made us feel welcome and it quickly became our favourite spot.

Three years ago when Ken wanted to start a regular comedy night he approached Derek about hosting it at Ballygiblin’s.  Without hesitation Derek agreed to give Ken a chance and every month for three years Ken has had the opportunity to put on a show and get his feet wet in the comedy world.
j use this one

When I started my business a little over a year ago I approached Derek and Dusty and asked them if I could manage their Facebook page.  Again, without hesitation they said yes and I have thoroughly enjoyed posting on their behalf ever since.

When I needed a caterer for a fundraising dinner, Derek and Dusty stepped up to the plate and provided delicious food at cost because they knew every penny raised needed to go back to the charity.

When I needed a door prize or a raffle prize, Derek was the first one to offer up a gift certificate.  I bet almost every charitable organization in this community has benefited from Derek’s generosity.

Dusty, as head chef, is super creative, talented, community minded and shopped locally whenever he could.  Dan Serson creates the most mouth watering desserts you will find anywhere.

This was a locally owned business that understood the value of the word ‘community’.  They always gave back.  They always pitched in.

Ken and I want to thank Sherrie, Dan, Dusty, Dan, Bobby, Charlie, Hennie for being such incredible people and providing us so many laughs and good times over the years.  And most of all we want to thank Derek for his community leadership, humility, sense of humour and generosity.

We will miss you but we’ll never forget you.  We wish you success in the next chapter of your life.
